Wildlife photography isn’t usually in my repertoire, but when you spend as much time in Nature as I do, you tend to stumble upon creatures here and there. Or sometimes, they stumble upon me.

Deep in the forest during a late afternoon rain, I was on the porch of our cabin enjoying a glass of whiskey. Around the corner, this beautiful beast came trotting along the trees. I grabbed my camera and, keeping my distance, I let my 300mm lens do the work as I cautiously hiked parallel with the bear.

With the rain starting to intensify as daylight began fading, I was lucky that the bear selected to rest a moment overlooking a small creek. This amazing animal took in his surrounding, giving me an occasional glance as if to remind me that I was a visitor in it’s domain. About a minute later those glances turned to a stare. I know my time was up, and slowly backed away down the mountain.
